Hi guys, this is my first post and I am very excited to join the Blogger Forum.
I am regularly blogging about diamonds on my website Your Diamond Teacher.
However, I would like to connect to more people so that I think that the Blogger platform is just the right thing for me.
Today I would actually like to talk about GIA vs AGS in color grading.
The reason is that I recommended three I-colored diamonds to a reader of my website. Now two of these diamonds were GIA diamonds while one was an AGS diamond.
Now, the person was concerned that the AGS diamond might not be worth that much because AGS is supposedly known to grade their diamonds in a less strict way.
It might be correct that SOMETIMES AGS can grade the same diamond one color grade better than GIA would. But it is not like this is always the case.
Even professional diamond graders agree that GIA and AGS are all in all comparable:
Check out the coment by "denverappraiser", one of the most influential members of Pricescope the #1 diamonds and jewelry community: "If I were choosing what to look at based purely on paper and all things were otherwise equal I would choose AGS because I prefer their cut grading system. I find their grading on clarity and color to be very comparable."
Thus, all in all I think that occasionally it could happen to you that a diamond graded by GIA would get another color grade. But all in all AGS is widely trusted for its entire grading practice. It is not like with IGI and EGL where you can be sure that they will grade the diamond around 2 grades better for everything.
I would definitely not dismiss the diamond because it is an AGS diamond! That would be really ridiculous!
